Patrons can download audiobooks, ebooks and music at home on their computer. The Onondaga County Public Library system maintains a digital catalog which can be located within the online catalog. Look for the tab "Downloadables."

Fayetteville Free Library provides a dedicated Download Station with access to the Digital Catalog. Bring your library card, listening device, and cords to use the Download Station at the library. You will check out the title using your library card and the download station will transfer the title to your listening device.

Patrons have access to information using our online databases. The FFL subscribes to a variety of databases covering all your research needs. {addthis off}

Twitter Friends on Parade!

I know it is a waste of time but it is so cool! Use this website, http://isparade.jp/# to see your friends on Twitter parade by. I see lots of people I know, including some who work here at the FFL. Can you spot anyone you know?

Overdrive Iphone App rocks!

Recently, Overdrive created an app for smartphones which downloads and plays titles.

1. After downloading the app, you start at the "Digital Catalog" also marked "Downloadables" in the library catalog found at http://onlib.lib.overdrive.com. (This step can be done on your phone or PC.)

2. Search for and check out an MP3. Currently this app only works with MP3s. You will also need your library card & Pin for this step.
3. After you have checked out a title, choose "Download" and this step starts the Overdrive Media Console App automatically. You can download the entire title or specific parts. Remember this is running on WiFi so download time may vary.

Next big thing: QR codes

Keep your eyes open for QR codes. They are popping up everywhere. NYC has huge digital screens displaying QR codes. What is a QR code? In brief, a QR code is a 2d barcode meant to be used with a smartphone. Developed in Japan, QR stands for "Quick Response." When your smartphone (using an app for QR codes) takes a photo of the QR code, your phone will respond. A QR code can contain a link to a website, a me-card or business card, or just display some text! See an example of a QR code below.

FourSquare

Have you heard of www.foursquare.com? They say it will be the next Twitter. If you don't know what Twitter is go to http://www.twitter.com/fayfree. You need a FourSquare app on your smart phone, the ability to browse the web, or ability to text message. FourSquare tells your friends what places you frequent and you can provide them with your favorite tips. Like FB and Twitter you need to connect with friends in order to see where they have "checked in".

When I go to the Fayetteville Free Library, I connect with FourSquare and I can get a list of places close to me. I choose "Fayetteville Free Library", check-in, and my friends can see that I have checked-in. It is also connected to my twitter account so it tells my followers I am at the Fayetteville Free Library. This is just a glimpse of FourSquare. We haven't even talked about the game aspect and that you can get free things!!! Try it out!
